July 8-10: The Camille Lightner Playhouse production of “The WIZ” will be performed by community youth at the Playhouse in Dean Porter Park. The show will be at 7:30 p.m. on July 8 and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on July 9 and 10. For more information, call (956) 542-8900.
July 9: The 20th Annual Lopez Charity Golf Tournament benefiting United Way will start at 8 a.m. at the Valley International Country Club Golf Course. Entry fee is $100 per player. July 15-17: The Imagenes Art Studio & Paseo Plaza’s “Object of Desire” Quarterly Art Exhibit at the Paseo Plaza Shopping Center, 1805 E. Ruben Torres Blvd. There will be a reception from 7-9 p.m. on July 15. If artists would like to sign up for the exhibit, the deadline is July 8. July 23: The Annual Butterfly Count for the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge will start at 9 a.m. at the Information Center. July: Kids’ College at UTB-TSC is currently registering children ages 4-14 for summer fun and learning. Classes include math, sports, guitar, dance, Spanish, robotics, heritage archeology, and more. Costumes of the Americas has opened its doors to the public. The Pan American Round Table I has collected over 400 costumes from almost every country in the Western Hemisphere to “promote knowledge, understanding, and friendship among the women of the Americas.” Over 50 years ago, PART I members began collecting the native dress from the countries they were studying and compiling the history of each one, to help preserve the traditions, folklore and handicrafts of the different cultures.
